Your Guide To Finding The Best Courier Insurance

Whether you are a self employed dispatch rider or own your own courier van you can save time searching for insurance quotes by using a specialist online broker.

They will scour the insurance market place and provide multiple quotes for you to compare. Brokers work in partnership with many of the leading insurance companies who specialise in courier insurance who are able to provide excellent rates for dispatch riders, and vans of all sizes.

Courier insurance can be a major expense, so you will need to find an insurance company who offers expert advice and huge savings without compromising on quality.

Many of the online insurance companies will proclaim to be the cheapest and the best, however unless they specialise in courier insurance they may not offer the most appropriate insurance cover which meets both legal and business needs.

The specialists will offer flexible insurance cover for either single or multi courier vehicles. Many have special motor bike courier schemes.

Goods in Transit cover may also need to be obtained in order for you to carry goods for others for which you are paid or rewarded. Let's be honest that's the whole point of a courier service after all!

The insurance companies have different options available for Goods in Transit cover. Some will include trailer cover, others may not. If you do tow a trailer you will need to make sure that it doesn't exceed the weight limits of the vehicle. If it does then you may find the insurance is invalid.

You should also ask if the Goods in Transit includes 'door to door'. Many insurers will only cover for goods while they are onboard the vehicle. It will not include any or damage incurred when you are taking the goods into an office block etc. even though you are delivering the parcel or packet. For this you may need additional Public Liability insurance cover.

As with all insurances terms and conditions will apply. For example if you leave the vehicle unattended and unlocked, even for a short period of time, you may find that the terms and conditions of the policy have been breached. Should any goods be stolen during this time you will not be covered.

It may also be a good idea to ask about the insurance company's cancellation policy. Many insurance companies will make an administration charge should you have the need to cancel a policy during the year agreement. It may also be possible to freeze a policy short term. This option may be particularly useful if you find you have no courier work for a few weeks or are unable to work for a while due to personal circumstance. Alternatively some insurance companies offer short term insurance cover which is usually for a minimum of three months.

Speak with the insurances companies or brokers when asking for quotations to ensure you are offered the most practical and affordable courier insurance cover to suit your individual business needs which does not compromise on quality.
