The Reanimation Of The 3D Film Industry In The Twenty-First Century

When 3D film first debuted nearly 60 years ago it was an instant pop culture hit. Actually, in the 1950's it was a surprisingly popular form of film presentation, though it was very expensive to produce at the time. At the time this type of filming was mostly demoted to cheap niche films that required expensive special effects to keep fans entertained, few of the 3D films of the 1950's went down in cinematic history. Eventually the extreme cost of producing the underdeveloped 3D films of the time began to be too much for most studios. Film makers weren't getting what they wanted out of the expensive to budget films and eventually they dropped into oblivion.

Thirty years later the 3D film made a slow but steady comeback. The eighties were a big time for these types of films, followed by an additional sprinkling here and there in the nineties. Finally as the century turned, new technology made it much more affordable and easier to both create and display these types of films. Yet again, trendiness resurrected the 3D film, but this time with more success than Hollywood could have imagined.

With a little time technology seems to improve tenfold, and this was the very case with 3D film. Horror, science fiction, and even some other genres were quick to follow- wanting to bring the fun into the adult world. This improved technology made its big debut in several children's movies before soon showing up in various horror movies. After producers realized the kind of success a film like Avatar could bring about, 3D exploded. Developers instantly began to work overtime to release new 3D capable televisions.

Most people had never heard of a 3D film prior to the early 1950s, yet the science that goes into this type of filming was pioneered well over a century ago. The first use of this type of film making was in 1890 and has been on a steady climb through technology since the very beginning. 3D film today is nothing like the films of the early twentieth century. 3D televisions and ever developing technology promise to bring even more fantastic illusions into the limelight soon.

Hit films like Alice in Wonderland, Tron Legacy, Toy Story 3D, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows continue to bring the 3D movie to a whole new generation. 3D film is back and it is better than ever, and we can only expect it to get even more mind-blowing as time passes and technology improves.
