Del Parson – The Best LDS Artwork Creator Of Our Time

For more than twenty years the most prominent creator of LDS artwork has been none other than the inspiring Delwin Oliver Parson. Better known as Del, Delwin was raised in the state of Utah during the 1940s. His most regarded piece of LDS artwork is easily "Christ in Red", though it is far from the only one.

Del's parents were Mormons and raised all nine of their sons and daughters in their faith. Del's dad was a university art professor which likely contributed greatly to his children's love of art. One-third of the family's nine children actually developed into professional artists, so clearly the talent of art runs deep in this family.

Parson's inspiration to paint the life of Christ came after his wife and youngest child died in a car wreck in 1978. He painted before this terrible event but afterwards he felt compelled to focus on LDS art only. Once the grieving process was over with Del Parson had quite a collection of amazing art on his hands and suddenly launched a career out of his pain. He is a broadly figure within the congregations of most devout Mormons.

He designed his most well-known contribution in 1983 per request of the church. This piece of work known as "Christ in Red Robe" was his first painting of Jesus. Only a few others have been seen as much as his first, but Del has actually painted over two hundred individual LDS paintings for the church. Many believe Parson's "Christ in Red Robe" is the most accurate image of Jesus.

Five years after his work became synonymous with both the church and LDS paintings, Parsons became a professor at Dixie College. He went on to receive rave reviews and even a 1990 Teaching Excellence Award for his job there. Parson's first and foremost hobby is still creating LDS artwork, however, as he loves to illustrate Jesus and his life.

Parson is a well known figure in the LDS art arena, though he also works in secular landscapes from time to time. He began his career with a single noticeable painting of Jesus and has created hundreds of pieces of LDS artwork since. Many Mormon churches and family homes contain some of Parson's LDS paintings for visitors to enjoy.

Parson's work is far from restricted to domestic life, it can be seen often in museums all over the world. He has regularly displayed LDS artwork exhibits at the Las Vegas Museum of Art and The National Center for Constitutional Art, just to name a few. Parson's art has garnered lots of awards and nominations throughout his very successful career.
