Is Search Engine Marketing Enough to Ensure Success in Your Online Business?

With the advent and evolution of so many search engine optimization and other Internet marketing-derived strategies over the last decade, search engine marketing companies that place the emphasis on other forms of advertising have begun to lose some serious ground in the industry. One of the most common arguments invoked against old-fashioned search engine marketing service providers is that they shouldn’t use offline marketing anymore, since it has become ineffectual and obsolete.

While this may actually be true in some isolated cases, depending on the actual goals of a search engine marketing company, engaging in other forms of advertising that are unrelated to internet marketing can still be very useful these days. As long as other marketing channels ensure a decent ROI at the very least, the use of classic search engine marketing is perfectly adequate and actually recommendable to most businesses.

Down at the core of the problem, it is all a question of metrics. Although modern search engine marketing/ optimization companies owe their highest ROI figures to state-of-the-art internet marketing methods, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the ROI from their online marketing efforts represent the baseline for what is feasible in terms of a return.

Don’t get me wrong, a large majority of companies that are just embarking upon online marketing practices and are new to the internet marketing scene in general literally fall in love with internet marketing once they learn about its possibilities and benefits. The main thing that draws their interest into adopting such strategies is the low cost per lead or cost per sale underlying internet marketing (as compared to other marketing efforts, mostly associated with the physical kind). However, very few of these companies end up replacing offline marketing with its online equivalent, because they see no point in doing that. A more common trend followed by businesses falling under the said category is to opt for a combination of offline marketing/ search engine marketing/ search engine optimization, since this is what offers them the best convenience and the best bang for their buck.

Although nobody can infirm that the advent of so many new and improved internet marketing methods has indeed brought some sensible changes in the industry, and that certain forms of traditional advertising may soon find themselves on the brink of extinction, there are classical channels which can still provide remarkable returns. For instance, with proper implementation, even direct mail advertising practices can be effective, which means that maintaining channel partnerships with offline marketing businesses can be financially rewarding after all.

When handled professionally and responsibly, offline PR can provide search engine marketing companies with outstanding market exposure and sizeable returns. As long as classic means of advertising -- in spite of being labeled as expired and obsolete by many self-appointed experts -- will live up to expectations and continue to make up competitive marketing campaigns, there will be people who will want to use them. Just think about it: if something shows good results and proves convenient for you in some particular way, there would be absolutely no point in dropping that approach just because someone tells you to do so.
