The S E O of Search Engine Optimisation a Guide to Business SEO

Most companies chose to out source their search engine optimisation on a monthly basis. This can be for a few reasons the company may not understand how to optimise their own site or they may not have the time or they might just not understand enough about SEO to take the plunge themselves. While you might need a company to deal with handle and plan your ongoing monthly search engine optimisation work there are definitely a few basics to search engine optimisation that can help give your business site a great starting point and a fighting chance in moving up the search engine rankings.

S is for Set up your site correctly.Ensure your site adheres to correct html standards and that all the code works. Make sure there are no broken links and that your site works with and without the www in the address. Check you have a suitable 404 page. There are basic guides by google that can help your business site get set up correctly. It is always a good idea to make sure you have it set up in google webmaster tools and that your site is verified. This can also help alert you if your site ever gets hacked or something goes wrong.

E is for external links. In this case we mean links from external sources. This is one of the keys for search engine optimisation. Make sure these links come from trusted sites and are do follow. This just means that there isn't a no follow attribute attached to it in the code. Try and get your external links to contain the words you want to show up for when people search in Google. Ask your friends and blogs and forums get links where ever you can as long as its from a good and trusted site or source.

O is very similar to what it actually stands for in the really SEO. Optimise your site. Make sure it has the keywords you are wanting to rank for in search engines. Make sure urls work and make sure your urls are keyword optimised make sure your code is compact and your images load quickly.

Another aspect you might want to look in to while working on seo is reputation management. This is where you may want to get rid of or hide one or two bad or negative results that come up for your brand name when you search in a search engine such this could be a negative article or review or an article based on information that is no longer correct. The way most people deal with this issue is by trying to remove the offending links by asking or by creating new content on other sites or on your own site which will rank well and in turn push the old content off search engines or at least down far enough to not be seen. Creating new blog posts and websites or micro sites or writing articles etc so that you can push the bad results down and these new results up. Well according to Google themselves, this is fair play from a recent thread on webmaster world

Google does not seem to have a problem with the whole game. As the world's largest search engine a spokesman there says creating new content to hide negative material is fair play.

If you want to read more about seo you can always look at the google guide for starter search engine optimisation. It is a great starter if you want to apply some basic SEO to your own personal site or business site.
