Over 65s Insurance Is Never too late

Many senior citizens, having crossed sixty five, feel that they no longer would qualify for any kind of insurance or that insurance companies may be considering them in the 'very high risk' category, and thus would not offer them their products.

Nothing can be farther from the truth. Insurance companies are in the business to make money, and they would never miss business opportunities that would earn handsome profits for them. Senior citizens are one such source of excellent return on their investment, and they are going all out to tap into this lucrative segment by coming out with various innovative schemes at highly discounted premium rates.

The logic is very simple. Senior citizens over sixty five are not going to be adventurous and reckless in their behavior and lifestyle. That automatically means that any car insurance (for example) sold to them will not involve huge claims that the insurance company would have to settle. This has been borne out through studies over the last decade, wherein senior citizens have been consistently enjoying no claim bonuses on their premiums year after year on their comprehensive car insurance. No wonder, the companies are pleased about adding such clientele to their list and are keen to sell them such policies. They are making excellent profits through the premiums, albeit discounted and not paying out anything from their side. This is in direct contrast to such policies sold to younger age groups wherein both genuine and fraudulent claims seem to be the order of the day and take a heavy toll of their profits.

The other reason why home and car insurance policies are sold to senior citizens over sixty five with great alacrity by the insurance companies is the fact that such people take great care of their homes and if at all they make any claims, they are honest about them and the companies can take them at face value.
The only area where companies are wary of providing cover is in travel insurance. It is rather ironic that while other factors like enough free time and cash on hand make it favorable for such people to travel and there are many attractive travel tour packages available, the travel insurance premium is pegged much higher.

The reasons are not far to seek as under:

People over sixty five are more likely to fall ill while travelling.

The recovery period is longer.

Accidents and any injury can get aggravated due to their general failing health conditions.

The claims are far higher leading to the insurance company making high pay outs.

However, this is not an issue and the internet offers enough opportunities to look for the best travel insurance package for people over sixty five. These are in the form of either single journey or yearly policies. They can also be customised to suit individual requirements and come with additional benefits like cover for loss of any personal possessions, cover for any legal advice required and cover for cancellation, postponement or curtailment of the journey due to any reason.
