Still Use a Wired Landline Phone? Save Time and Money With These Telephone Tips
We live in a communication age of e-mails, instant messaging, social networking, video messaging, cell phones, VOIP phones, and so forth. Many people are giving up their traditional land line wired phones in favor of alternate forms of communication. Although the landline phone has not quite yet gone the way of the dinosaurs, some predict it will someday. Whether or not this is true, millions of people still use traditional phone service and probably will continue for the foreseeable future.
If you are one of those who still uses a wired phone, here are some telephone time-saver tips you may find useful:
Use a cordless phone. Cordless phones allow you to take the phone with you and talk wherever you go in the house. It's not wireless in the sense of a cell phone as there is a base receiver plugged into a wall jack, but the wireless handset allows you to move around the house more freely than a phone that is physically attached to the wall.
Another option for a landline phone is to install additional jacks in the rooms where you will be using the phone and then install a handset at each jack location. Make sure you have long enough cords so you can move around freely while talking on the phone so you can do other things like cooking or doing chores.
Use your telephone instead of driving your car. Instead of making a trip in your car to do things like confirming appointments, use your phone to call a store to see if certain items are in stock, to inquire about business hours, etc. Not only will you save time by not having to get in the car and travel but you will also save money on gas and auto maintenance. Driving your car less also fits within the today's green lifestyles as you are putting less pollution in the air.
Don't be afraid to cut short time-consuming phone calls. The person on the other end may not realize that the phone call is cutting into your time, so it is quite okay to let the other person know that you need to go, but you will call them back later. Saying something like" I'm sorry but I'm really running short on time right now, can I call you back?" is appropriate and acceptable in these situations. Most people understand and won't be offended. However it's important that you do call them back at your earliest convenience.
Often a phone call is more convenient and saves more time than other means of communication, such as e-mail or instant messaging. This is especially true if you can take care of the matter within just a few seconds or a couple of minutes. Unless your computer is already on, it takes time to boot-up and then open your e-mail or IM software to begin communication. In the time it takes you to get the computer up and running, you could have already had a phone call made and the matter taken care of.
In conclusion we have looked at some ways you can save time using your landline home phone. Wired phone technology has been around for more than 100 years, and considered by some to be "on the way out." However, just because it's old, doesn't mean it's obsolete. In many cases the traditional landline phone is still the fastest and most effective way to communicate.
