Some Questions Related To A Fleet Insurance Policy That Need Answering

Motor insurance policies designed to protect whole fleets are becoming extremely common these days. Almost every businessman or entrepreneur who runs a motor trade business and owns a fleet of vehicles insures his/her fleet with motor insurance policies that are particularly created for insuring fleets.

However, while most of these people are aware of the significance of motor insurance policies for fleets, their purchases are still very basic, crude and not calculative. If you are about to get your fleet of vehicles insured with a motor insurance policy, then you should ensure that your purchase is good by asking the following questions.

1. Do you need a fully loaded policy or an affordable one?

Broadly speaking, there are two types of insurance buyers in the market. The first looks for the best possible policy in terms of the amount of features inherent in the policy and the second looks for the cheapest policy possible in terms of the investment required. You need to understand where you stand between these two extremes.

2. Have you considered niche policy providers?

People have different types of fleets in terms of a variety of variables such as number of vehicles, types of vehicles, their work etc. There are policy providers in the market that specialise in particular fields and fleets. For example, if your fleet is all vans then you would do well to find a fleet van insurance provider.

3. Have you tried everything possible to reduce the costs?

There are different ways through which you can reduce your investment into the policy. These include loyalty bonuses, special offers, safety certificates and even security devices.

4. How many drivers do you have for each vehicle?

Motor insurance policies for fleets would allow you to include multiple drivers for each vehicle in your fleet because businesses often switch drivers on the basis of convenience. For this, you need to specify the drivers for each vehicle in your fleet to the policy provider.

5. Does your policy need to span the whole of Europe?

If your business does not take you outside the country, then why should you pay for a policy that gives you European coverage? If you choose a policy that does not provide this or just un-check this option then the cost of your policy will go down significantly.

6. Do you need roadside assistance coverage?

Many businesses tend to depend on schedules and deadlines a lot. This is primarily true for the delivery type of motor trade businesses where if a package or cargo is not delivered it leads to losses. Such businesses may need additional roadside assistance coverage in their fleet insurance policy for situations where their vehicles break down en route to a destination.

7. Do you need the courtesy car option?

Finally, many fleet insurance policies have the courtesy car option in them which means that if your car is at a workshop then you can get a courtesy car from the policy provider for the interim period. This can be helpful for certain businesses and not for others which is why you need to decide whether your fleet insurance policy should have this feature or not.
