Car Valeters Need Insurance Coverage

If you are a car valeter, whether you work for a business or are self-employed, you definitely should be well covered by insurance. The very nature of the business lends itself to opportunities for bad things to happen. Every time you use a solution on those soiled leather seats, you run a risk of being blamed for stains, even though they were already there. If you have valeter's insurance coverage, and you drop a tool that scratches or dents the clients fancy fender or chips the paint, you can feel confident that you're covered.

Car valeting or auto detailing, as it's called in the United States, is a very labour intensive occupation that requires much attention to every little detail and when things don't go quite right, a scratch or stain can result. Having plenty of liability insurance coverage can save you from lawsuits.

Obtain your insurance policy through a company that carries total coverage for all aspects of auto and truck insurance if possible, as they will have a thorough knowledge of, and ability, to give you the best coverage possible. Car valeters basically need per capita and liability coverage in cases of:

• Damage to tools and goods as they're loaded, or unloaded, or perhaps dropped from vehicles
• Damage to tools and goods while in a vehicle (car accident)
• Theft of tools or goods while locked inside a vehicle
• Hijack of vehicle resulting in loss of tools or goods
• Damage to a vehicle while in the process of valeting for the client

This coverage will be considered to be Motor Trade Liability or Road Risks policy form, and each type of insurance should be looked into and explained by an agent. Each form of insurance has its own stipulations and coverage, so by obtaining valeters insurance, you will be assured of being covered for all potential perils that may occur. Many customers insist that their valeter be fully insured.

As with the coverage for theft of tools or goods while locked inside a vehicle, the auto must be securely locked inside a garage overnight (hours between nine PM and six AM) in order to qualify. The coverage will apply if that vehicle is in fact locked, yet broken into during a time period other than the hours cited above. As an example, you stop at a diner for lunch while going to or from a job site, and find your locked vehicle either broken into (and your tools stolen) or the entire vehicle is missing (including your tools and goods). Additionally, this valeting insurance will provide coverage in case of damage to your tools and goods if involved in a traffic accident.

Public liability insurance for detailers and valeters, available on Motor Trade Liability policies, are specifically aimed toward coverage for motor trade activities and not just exclusively aimed at valeting. There are size and weight restrictions on some policies however, so ask the agent about them.
