Things to do in California’s Antelope Valley
The Antelope Valley is a desert region in southern California located just north of Los Angeles County. It forms part of the western portion of the Mojave Desert and it rests right between the Tehachapi Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. The two main cities in the Antelope Valley are Lancaster and Palmdale, both of which are composed mainly of residential, suburban neighborhoods. As you can imagine, there’s not very many obvious choices of fun things to do in Antelope Valley. To the untrained eye it might just look like a sprawling desert dotted with flat, residential towns. However, if you know where to look, there’s actually a lot worth discovering. Treat yourself to a stay at one of the great Antelope Valley hotels and partake in some of these fun activities.
Hike in the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve
The Prime Desert Woodland preserve is technically a city park. Located within the city of Lancaster, the Preserve is made up of more than 100 acres of natural desert landscapes and hiking trails. It is one of the best places to go for night walks and enjoy the bright, star-filled desert skies (one the perks of living away from the big cities). So pack a lunch basket and head out to the Woodland Preserve. It’s one of the most fun and relaxing experiences you’ll have in the Antelope Valley.
Try Horseback Riding
Rainbow Ridge Ranch, located in Palmdale, offers horseback riding lessons and guided tours of the Angeles National Forest on horseback. Rainbow Ridge Ranch is also available for hosting birthday parties and day camps. It’s great if you feel like trying something adventurous and fun while you’re in the Antelope Valley. The whole family is sure to have a great time.
Go Golfing
If you a golfer and need to practice your game, head over the Rancho Vista Golf Course in Palmdale. This beautiful, 18-hole regulation length golf course had a medium length layout that’s ideal for practicing your shot accuracy. The club also features a great restaurant bar and grill, offering great lunch and dinner menus. You can often find special deal packages on the Rancho Vista Golf Course website.
Picnic at the Poppy Reserve
The Antelope Valley’s California Poppy Reserve is located on 15101 Lancaster Road. It’s a pleasant, scenic drive to get there, and once you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful natural reserves in the state. When the flowers are in bloom, the fields that comprise the California Poppy Reserve turn a bright, bright orange color that is truly amazing to behold. There are trails and places for visitors to sit and enjoy the view. Bring a picnic basket and a loved one and enjoy a truly beautiful walk among the poppies.
Enjoy a Show at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center
The Lancaster Performing Arts Center is close to great Lancaster CA hotels, and it hosts a wide range of big-name musical performers year round. Past artists who have played at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center include James Brown, Meat Loaf, Willie Nelson and Bob Newhart.
