Mission Beach, nestled on the sandbar between Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean, is home to a great number of San Diego rentals. Located north of Mission Beach and south of La Jolla is Pacific Beach, another popular San Diego vacation destination. Most weekly rates for oceanfront houses are very comparable to those of Ocean Beach, but Pacific Beach has more condo-style homes with community pools and Jacuzzis. Nightlife in Pacific Beach is more targeted towards the younger crowd and is a great place for large groups of friends to enjoy a vacation together.
South of Mission Beach is Ocean Beach, located seven miles from downtown San Diego and near the San Diego River. Vacation rentals in Ocean Beach are mostly quieter houses with one or two bedrooms and are located directly next to the water. Weekly summer rates start at about fifteen hundred dollars. Ocean Beach has somewhat of a different atmosphere than many other neighborhoods in the area, as it houses several antique shops and other independent retail locations as opposed to chain restaurants and shopping destinations. If you want to know what this great place was like before it became a huge tourist destination, plan to include Ocean Beach as part of your next few San Diego vacations.
