Well, if I were a millionaire, I could have given each one the latest gadget to boot. But I was not, and still am not. What I did was I opted for a gift that was affordable yet, at the same time, also very memorable and recipient specific.
I decided to give everyone close to me their own Christmas cards. Surprisingly, they were all very happy and surprised with what they got.
You might think that this kind of gift is very old-fashioned. However, if you dish your own imagination to the cards that you make, you might just come up with something that your friends could treasure. So how did I do it? It took a lot of preparation time and more time to actually make and print the cards. However, it was all worth it!
1. I started listing down the names of the people I was planning to give gifts to. Then, I tried to group them together according to their interests. I have a lot of friends so it took me a while to sort them out.
2. After sorting them out, I listed one-liner messages that could say a lot about every person in my list. Make sure these one-liners that you choose should be something that you and your friend share deeply so that even if these messages are short, they could recall special memories that you have shared.
3. Then, decide what pictures you would use for each of your recipient's card. Just like the one-liner messages, the pictures that you choose should be something that your friend would be very fond of. It could be an old picture of you and your friend.
4. After collecting messages and pictures, come up with card designs that could be shared by the grouping that you made for your friends. Say for example this group of friends is all related by a certain liking for dogs. You can create designs that could show their interest. Make sure that the motif does not stand out too much or else your card would not look like a Christmas card anymore, instead it would look like a Dog's day card.
5. Then, double check for any grammatical or typographical errors that need to be corrected. You would not want to give a card that looks haphazardly done.
6. Lastly, make sure that you have enough time for the printing and sending of cards. Although your friends would still appreciate your gift even if it reaches them days late, they would appreciate it more if they receive the card on the day it was meant to be given.
