Best Video Production News Of 2009-2010

Best video production news of 2009-2010

2009 was an interesting year for the video production field. By March there had been massive increases in the UK for sites which included videos – a 40% increase on the previous year.

In July Microsoft launched a UK centric MSN video player via the corporate arm of the BBC allowing Microsoft to start streaming some of its popular TV shows. The BBCs version – the iPlayer – is advert/commercial free but the new MSN version will contain pre-roll advertising.

By August 2009, the global online video market had soared and the worlds largest network – scanscout – reached over 80 million viewers, the next largest Tremor reach over 71 million viewers and YuMe reached over 68 million viewers.

August continued to be an interesting month, where video advertising….yes that’s right video advertising appeared for the first time in paper magazines. These video-in-print adverts appeared in the US, using slim-line screens (around the size of a mobile phone display) and contained rechargeable batteries.

By September 2009 UK online advertising continued to boom and overtook TV sales for the first time ever! Video advertising had increased 195 percent year on year. Spending on internet advertising in the UK hit ?3.3bn in 2008, up 17 per cent year on year, while total advertising spending fell 3.5 per cent to ?17.5bn.

During October 2009, despite the continuation of the recession, online video continued to open up “fantastic opportunities” in direct marketing according to the Chair of the DMA.

By November 2009, Gordon Brown UK Prime Minister announced that by 2012 Britain will lead the world in broadband services through the governments intention to expand the digital infrastructure throughout the UK, working with Sir Tim Berners-Lee [MIT professor credited with inventing the World Wide Web] and Martha Lane Fox [the government champion for digital inclusion].

2010 seems equally as promising and exciting.
