The Future Of TV?

TV of course has a future. TV will always have a future. What people really mean is “does broadcasting have a future”.

In the 1980s, before Multichannel Television Sound, or home theater was commonplace in American households, broadcasters would air a high fidelity version of a television program's audio portion over FM stereo simultaneous with the television broadcast. This has continued for sports.

However the internet has grown rapidly leaving radio as the poor relation, and the inpatient audiences of the 21st century together with hectic and or flexible lifestyles means people want to watch programmes when they want to watch them not when broadcasters dictate it. This is called TV on demand.

These programmes are usually provided on the internet after they have been broadcasted on TV, but many programmes are now made for internet viewing. This also means that new TVs are being made with internet capabilities. This in itself is not new – in the 90’s many TVs were internet ready – but with the rapid availability of programmes across the internet thanks to sites such as youtube, means that internet enabled TVs have not only seen a rebirth, but they are now equipped with better interfaces allowing you to browse through specific internet TV channels for your vast and ever growing selection of internet TV programmes.

So online video is the future of TV – and TV will always be there. Video Production Companies are now pumping put broadcast quality videos at an amazing rate (other than shoddy web developers with a camera that is), in HD quality, with all the production values you’d find on broadcast TV. This is primarily due to the people making them being ex-TV people!

So that’s the future of TV – more choice, global choice, ever expanding, improving in quality, on demand.

Enjoy the future
