I am asking this question because as a small business, you might be making errors in your marketing strategy – be it custom printing of your marketing collaterals or tv commercials – that make it impossible for you to be successful. If you are losing thousands of dollars every month just because your marketing strategy keeps on coming up with mistakes, then you are most likely making fatal errors that are indeed very hard to fix.

Even as a small business entrepreneur, you know for a fact that errors are part and parcel of the commercial industry. Even big business owners make mistakes, sometimes even fatal ones. The only difference is that big corporations are able to fix them and be able to bounce right back to the game. This is not so for small businesses. A massive marketing error is not easy to fix on a small budget. Not only will your mistake cost you your whole marketing campaign; it can cost you your business life as well.

So what can you do as a small business owner?

1- One of the most fatal errors when marketing is not having a marketing campaign. How do you address and fix this error? You have to have a marketing campaign that will work for you. Don’t rely on your product being the miracle drug or that your service is the best and that people will come eventually when they see how much of the benefits they can get from it. Even miracle drugs need to be advertised for people to know about it. It is so not true what Kevin Costner said in one of his movies, “If you build it, they will come.” Because they won’t. Unless you go out there and market, your target clients will never know about you or your miracle drug.

2- Another error is not being able to combine the online and offline marketing campaigns. Don’t just have your custom printer produce your marketing materials for you; also have the online world help you send out your word. The key is to take advantage of whatever medium is made available to market your small business. With online marketing, you don’t have to spend so much as many of the methods found online is often free. The bottom line is not to neglect any chance you have of connecting with your potential market. Smart business acumen dictates that you use whatever means there is to promote your business.

3- Next fatal mistake that often ends in failure is not being able to track your marketing efforts. You are simply wasting your time if you do not know which campaigns work and which does not. You have to know whether the ones you implemented got you the results you expect from your investments. That way, you’ll be able to pursue the ones that can help you succeed and drop those that can only slow you down or stop you from succeeding in your industry. Or maybe, you just need to tweak your marketing campaign to make it work. But unless you can track your marketing campaigns’ effectiveness, you will never know which can work and which you are wasting your money on.

4- Last mistake is not following up on target clients. Your marketing efforts don’t stop when you have distributed your custom printing collaterals to your target clients. The worst thing that you can do is to forget about them after sending them one of your business tools. With the kind of amount that you’ve invested to get them interested, it is unthinkable to give up on your prospects just like that. Of course, it takes a lot of effort to get them to finally say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to your offer. But until such time, you cannot afford to not let them know that you are interested in them and their business.
As a small business owner, sure, it is not that easy to fix a fatal mistake. But by following these suggestions, you can already start marketing and be confident enough to know which ones to avoid so you will end up with a marketing campaign that works and can give you the success you want.
