Mint as Pest Control

- Peppermint - this particular type of mint effectively controls lice, ants, flies, moths, and lice
- Pennyroyal - this type of mint deals with rats such as gnats, lice, moths, ticks, and ants
- Spearmint - this one wards off most of the rats listed above

Basil as Insect Control

Basil is used in a assortment of foods. However, it is also an herb that effectively controls pests, particularly the bush basil. Basil keeps away flies very well. This is used by the Italians - they keep and grow tomatoes and basil together so that the flies do not attack the fresh juicy tomatoes.

For planting basil (as with mint), you can plant it by the doorway. Therefore, the pleasant aroma of the basil perfumes your entire house as people enter while also keeping flies away .

Citronella as Pest Control

If you are currently in an ongoing battle against mosquitoes, then planting Citronella might finally put an end to the problem. You can use its essential oil and the scent it produces to permeate your direct surroundings. To do that, simply mix a few drops of the Citronella's essential oil. The smell produced will be very unpleasant to the mosquitoes and they will be discouraged to come anywhere near your house.

You must concentrate on the entrance of the house to lessen the possibility of invading your entire home. Then, pour some drops of the oil into the hems of the curtains. If the curtains are blown by the wind, it will carry that smell which drives the mosquitoes away.
