Check Out a Cruise as your Next Vacation

Before I met my wife I had never even considered going on a cruise let along actually enjoying one. To me the though of getting on the ship and getting off the ship and never being in one place for very too long as well as being “trapped” on the ship while it was at sea did not seem to inviting to me.

Then my wife and I went on our first cruise together (she had been on two with her friend before I met her). I was pleasantly surprised as to how enjoyable cruising can really be. The only thing I do not like is the check in process as the lines can get long, but once you get past that, there is a whole world of things to do.

When we went on our first cruise me made a deal that we would try everything and anything regardless of whether we had an interest or not. A carefree spirit so to speak. I attended art auctions (although I didn’t buy anything) and was simply amazed as to how much fun it was watching people bid on artwork that to me didn’t look like anything special. But then again I don’t know anything about art. Regardless, it was a lot of fun.

We also took part in a wine tasting/wine education class. You tasted a variety of wines while they showed you what to look for in good ones and bad ones. Or as I like to call the bad ones, the affordable ones. Basically they set it up so you will buy wine for your dinner table later that night, but I learned a lot about wine, probably more than I ever imagined, and had a good time.

I am sure all cruise ships are different but on the ship we were on they had an awesome champagne bar complete with little finger foods, and the one side of the bar was all windows so you could stare out at the rich blue Caribbean waters.

If it is the pool you want to enjoy but hate sharing it with the rowdy kids, then don’t worry because the ship we were on (and I hear a lot of ships are going in this direction), had a pool specifically for adults. That’s right, no kids allowed. We alternated between the two pools during the week since one was inside and the other was outside on the top deck.

Of course what cruise vacation would not be complete without talking about the food. Now some people think the food is just average, where as I think it was fantastic. The buffet breakfasts and lunches are what I expected and my wife and I chose the second seating for our dinner. The dinner was the best meal of the day and our staff was friendly courteous and attended to everyone of our needs.

I can’t say that my good experiences with cruising the high seas will be the same as yours, but if you were contemplating a cruise vacation, I say give it a try. I don’t believe you will be disappointed.
