Find Policies With Online Truck Insurance Brokers

Finding ways to reduce increasing costs of truck insurance may seem like a time consuming venture. No so!

Use an online insurance broker who specialises in HGV insurance and they will find the most competitive quotations available from a number of different insurance companies who specialise in truck insurance.

Each insurance company will offer discounts and ways to help save money on premiums.

1. No claims bonus or discount. With a proven record of claim free truck driving insurance companies are able to offer discounts. The more years claims free driving you have the greater the amount of discount they will offer.
2. Limited use. Lower premiums can be offered for those who restrict their truck driving to within the UK mainland.
3. Restricted driving. Many insurance companies offer huge discounts if the number of drivers is restricted. Owner operators are usually offering the most discounts. Having named drivers only will also help to lower the premiums. While 'any driver' options may seem an easier option, the cost is far greater.
4. Voluntary excess. Every type of motor insurance comes with an excess. This can be increased to lower the premiums, but be cautious-if you should need to make a claim it will cost you more.

There are other truck insurance options available

1. If you pull a trailer make sure this is included on the policy. The majority of insurance companies do include trailer cover, but not all.
2. Goods in Transit cover. This is not included in the truck insurance. You will need to take out additional Goods in Transit cover if you use your truck to transport goods for others and you receive payment or reward for providing this service.
3. If you carry your own goods only Goods In transit insurance will cover for loss or damage. Restrictions as to the value and exemptions as to what is carried are applied by most insurance companies.
4. Glass cover. Insurance for window screens should they be damaged in an accident, through malicious damage or hit by falling or thrown objects.
5. Emergency breakdown cover. This cover is particularly useful for older trucks.
6. Legal cost. This provides legal cover should you need to make a claim for personal or vehicle damage. Extremely useful if you drive your truck on the continent.

Some of the options are inclusive with comprehensive truck insurance. Inform the brokers if you are looking for all inclusive truck insurance deals.

A word to the wise:

1. Don't be caught out by being informed or thinking that 'light haulage' and courier insurance is the same! Speak with the insurance company or broker and explain what you will be using your truck for to make sure you are covered properly should you need to make a claim.
2. Never assume all aspects of your truck business needs are automatically covered under the truck insurance policy. Again, if you are unsure or in any doubt speak with the insurance companies.
3. Be cautious when opting for cheap truck insurance; cheap does not necessarily mean the best or adequate. Make sure that cheap insurance also meets with your business needs.
