LCD Television: Know what you want before you buy
LCD Televisions are awesome I must admit but did you know there are a variety of factors that make one better than another (besides size of course)? Well there are. In this article I have included some tips you can follow to make sure you get the one that is right for you so that the money you are going to lay out is worth the investment.
Pixels
Pixels on an LCD TV screen are the same as your computer monitor in that they are small dots that represent the colors of what you are looking at. You will see pixels rate with a number followed by a letter, for example, 1080p, 720i and so on. The higher the number means the more pixels means more clarity for your picture. If you plant on using Blu Ray go with a native pixel rating that ends in the letter “p” and shoot for more pixels
Scale
Your LCD TV will scale the incoming signal meaning if there is a low resolution signal coming in the TV’s processor will make the necessary adjustments to fit your screen and not make it look like crap. Check to see how the TV handles scaling both low resolution and high definition signals. If you buy a TV that has poor scaling then your picture will look terrible.
Viewing
Remember the projection style TV sets? They were huge and had great pictures, if you sat directly in front of them. If you sat a little off to the side you could barely see anything. With LCD TV sets you get a better viewing area and wider range. However, not all LCDs are the same. Make sure you check the viewing angle of the TVs design specification to make sure it can reach 80 degrees from the center viewing point.
Connections and HD
When you purchase your LCD TV chances are it will come high def ready. That means it will automatically be able to handle any type of signal being sent out over the airwaves. But you also want to make sure it has ample connections for your devices that will plug directly into your TV set and make it easier for you to run your DVD, Blu Ray, Tivo, slingbox, video game systems, surround sound or whatever you are attaching. Most come with two on the back and one on the front. If you will need more you need to find a TV that will accommodate or buy a box that allows extending to what you need.
These are just four of the many things to look for but I feel they are the most important because they will directly affect the viewing and use capabilities of you TV set. Besides these four keep in mind the space your TV will go in and not buy one that is too large. You will also need to know how you are going to display it. Are you going to hang it on the wall or use a stand, which of course you will need to buy if you don’t own one already.
LCD TVs offer a great visual experience. If you buy the right one for you it makes that experience even more enjoyable.
