Smoke damage is a serious problem in New Jersey and as a matter of fact, everywhere else where fire occurs - pretty much all over the world. Even the newly-elected governor faced both criticisms and praises with his move to reconsider the ordinance that otherwise would have been enacted earlier. Some residents and home builders do not share the same sentiments however. To them, fire sprinklers can do more harm than good because it is prone to false alarms. When these happen, not only gallons of water are wasted but properties can also get damaged by water and moisture. They recommend using smoke detectors instead of fire sprinklers to battle fire and smoke damage in New Jersey.
While the debate continues and the IRC is still being reviewed, home builders are encouraged to promote designs and use materials that can avoid and withstand fire. Residents are reminded to stay on the safe side and be alert when fires happen.
