Just a few seconds after contact with fire, the dry tree was ablaze. In less than a minute, nearby furniture were already in fire too.
On the other hand, a tree standing in less than 10 liters of water maintained daily did not light up even when an entire matchbook was used. Sure it ignited after propane torch was used but the flame eventually died when the torch was cut down from the branches.
Check the decors too
Having a Christmas tree is one issue but additional lights and decors on the tree is another thing when it comes to fire damage at home. Many Christmas tree fires can be traced to electrical arcing and not just lighted candles touching the tree or the decors. Homeowners should avoid substandard decorations that make use of electricity. If you are using the same Christmas lights from last year, make sure that these are still safe to use. When in doubt, have these checked by an electrician or just buy new ones.
